A visit to Prof. Dr. Peter Uhrig, Chair of Big Data Linguistics

Each semester, FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger visits professors in their institutes. He visits them there to talk about their research, to discover what is close to their heart and to get to know them better.

Our series introduces you to the researchers and gives an impression of the President’s meeting with them.

In episode 30, the President visits Prof. Dr. Peter Uhrig. He is Chair of Big Data Linguistics at FAU.

Prof. Uhrig researches into cognitive linguistics, above all the use of large quantities of data and the development of digital methods.

In doing so, he aims to help shape the transition to the use of new machine learning methods in linguistic methodology.

Before coming to FAU, Peter Uhrig was head of a junior research group at TU Dresden.

His hidden talent: He can sleep almost anywhere, something that is particularly useful on business trips.
