FAU is one of the first to sign the Erlangen Declaration for Diversity, Respect and Tolerance.

On October 6, FAU Vice President People Prof. Dr. Andreas Hirsch signed the declaration in Erlangen city hall. FAU was among the first to sign the declaration with other stakeholders from the city of Erlangen.

”The historical city of Erlangen has become a modern, diverse and lively city. Every day, people in numerous organizations strengthen good community relations. As a location for innovation and research, Erlangen is characterized by small companies, internationally renowned corporations, research, many active clubs and associations, civic engagement, and much more besides. Erlangen wants to offer a home and a future to all, regardless of their background or social or economic status. Through the active involvement of civil society, business and public institutions, our city contributes to an active democracy and to sustainability.

As a signatory of the declaration, we regard Erlangen’s motto “Offen aus Tradition” (a tradition of openness) as an obligation, both to the past and for the future: We aim to live, learn and work in diversity, with respect, tolerance and in appreciation of each other.”

Furthermore, as a place of education and exchange, FAU opens its doors to society and the partners of the Declaration in various formats and events. It brings the latest scientific findings together with lifelong learning and a lively culture of discussion. In this way, FAU strengthens the joint values of diversity, respect and tolerance and promotes democracy.”
