FAU top of the ranking for patents and third-party funding
In the recently published international THE World University Rankings, FAU remains among the top 10 percent of participating universities in 2025. Compared with almost 2,200 universities across the globe, FAU ranked 206th overall. We are particularly pleased with our ranking in the key area of industry, based on patents and third-party funding from industry: first place not only in Germany, but in the world.
Nationally, FAU has made it into the top 20 overall, moving up from place 21 last year to place 19 this year. The University has also done extremely well in the area of research environment, coming in at place 169 internationally.
What is the THE Ranking?
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings have been published annually since 2004. Compiled in collaboration with the service provider Elsevier, it is considered one of the most influential university rankings alongside the QS World University Ranking and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). In the current edition, more than 2190 universities were evaluated based on 13 indicators in the core areas of teaching, research environment, research quality, industry income and international outlook.
