Master’s students from Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering particularly satisfied
Many Master’s students have given positive feedback on Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in the CHE Master’s ranking 2025. The survey ranked engineering subjects and psychology. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering did particularly well. For the ranking, students were asked for their opinion on various criteria affecting their studies, and indicators relevant to research and teaching were also taken into account.
FAU students studying Electrical Engineering and Information Technology were particularly satisfied in 12 of the 17 different indicators. These were: general study situation, supervision from lecturers, study organization, courses on offer, support during studies, digital teaching elements, research orientation, practical orientation in teaching, transition to a Master’s degree, support for studying abroad, citations per publication and doctoral degrees per professor.
Mechanical Engineering gained top marks in 11 of 15 indicators. These were: general study situation, supervision from lecturers, study organization, courses on offer, support during studies, digital teaching elements, research orientation, transition to a Master’s degree, support for studying abroad, doctoral degrees per professor and third-party funding per researcher.
When it came to research orientation during studies, the subjects Materials Science and Engineering, Process Engineering and Psychology joined the subjects of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering in achieving top positions. All ranked subjects also did very well in indicators regarding teaching, such as supervision, practical orientation or courses on offer.
The ranking
For the CHE Master’s ranking, Master’s students assess their study conditions based on the general study situation, courses on offer, organization of studies and scientific relevance, including the options for taking a more in-depth approach in academic working, the incorporation of innovative research in the Master’s degree program, and the use of digital teaching elements. In addition, the ranking also covers indicators such as funding per researcher, publications per researcher, citations per publication and doctoral degrees per professor.
