Visiting Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schlecht, Professorship for Signal Processing
Each semester, FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger visits professors in their institutes. He visits them there to talk about their research, to discover what is close to their heart and to get to know them better.
Our series introduces you to the researchers and gives an impression of the President’s meeting with them.
In episode 38, the President visits Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schlecht. He is Professor of Signal Processing.
Prof. Schlecht researches signal processing techniques, focusing on acoustics and audio. Computer-assisted tools are combined with physics and psychophysics to enhance media applications such as virtual and augmented reality. (Image: FAU/Giulia Iannicelli)1/41/4
He considers the nature of sound to be wonderfully complex. In his research, Prof. Schlecht and his team often change perspective to make progress. In doing so, they weigh up application requirements, theory development, physical models, artistic expression, and human perception. (Image: FAU/Giulia Iannicelli)2/42/4
Before coming to FAU, Sebastian Schlecht was at Aalto University in Finland. He spent time at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture and the School of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Schlecht studied Applied Mathematics in Trier and Digital Music Processing in London. (Image: FAU/Giulia Iannicelli)3/43/4
