EFI report confirms University’s strength in innovation

The report by the Expert Commission for Research and Innovation (EFI) highlights the innovative strength of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). According to EFI’s evaluation, FAU ranks among the three universities with the most patent applications.

Around 1,500 patents registered

Also included on the leaderboard are the Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The frontrunner is TUD with approximately 1,600 patent applications between 2002 and 2022. During the same period, FAU registered approximately 1,500 patents.

“FAU is firmly rooted in a strong ecosystem of non-university research institutions, start-ups, medium-sized companies, and international corporations. This environment creates space for new, creative ideas and provides inspiration. The fact that this has been confirmed once again by the EFI expert commission naturally fills us with pride,” explains FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger.
