Among the top 10 in Germany in six subjects
In this year’s QS subject ranking, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) achieved a place in a total of 22 subjects, two more than in 2025. Overall, FAU is represented in four subject areas of the university ranking conducted by education information service provider Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
In the top 200 worldwide in eight subjects
As in previous years, Materials Science is ranked internationally among the top 100, in 96th place. Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry maintain their position in the top 200. FAU is also among the 200 best with the subjects Physics and Astronomy and Archeology. Newly included in the ranking, and straightaway in the top 200: Anatomy and Physiology is ranked 161.
Among top 10 in Germany in six subjects
FAU is ranked among the top 10 with one subject more than in 2025: Chemical Engineering in 5th place, Electrical Engineering in 6th place, Materials Science also in 6th place, Anatomy and Physiology in 7th place, and Mechanical Engineering in 8th place. Medicine has made it into the top 10 this year in 9th place.
QS subject ranking:
For its subject ranking, QS Quacquarelli Symonds investigated over 6273 universities, before including a total of 1908 of them in the ranking. The 55 subjects included in the ranking are split into the five subject areas Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Science and Medicine, Natural Science and Social Sciences & Management The following categories are considered when evaluating the universities and their subjects: Academic and employer reputation, citations, H-index and international research network.
