Program overview

What is the degree program about?

The Ancient Greek teaching degree program focuses on the study of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece. To this end, the program provides solid linguistic skills in ancient Greek. Active mastery of the language takes a back seat to the acquisition of the knowledge required to read the original texts. In dealing with these, students should acquire the ability to deal critically and reflectively with a culture that is initially foreign to them and with their own.

The teaching degree program is therefore largely consistent with the Bachelor’s program in Greek Philology. In the teaching degree program, the areas of subject didactics and educational sciences are added.

The basis of studies (and study planning) is formed by various examination regulations: In addition to the Teacher Examination Regulations (LPO I) and the Study and Examination Regulations for the First Teacher Examination at FAU (LAPO), students with Greek as a teaching subject must definitely consult the Subject Study and Examination Regulations for Greek. This contains tables with the modules that have to be completed during the
the course of study. According to LPO I, Greek can only be combined with Latin.
