Program overview

What is the degree program about?

The study program prepares students for professional work in the teaching profession by providing them with subject-specific and didactic qualifications. The study of the academic specialization imparts knowledge of business administration and economics, law and accounting. The content of the program is largely the same as that of the bachelor’s program in economics. In addition, there are the areas of subject didactics and educational sciences.

In the first six semesters, there is a great deal of correspondence between the courses in economics (BA) and economics (teaching degree). In the case of the teaching degree, modules from subject didactics and educational sciences are added. In the case of the teaching degree for grammar schools, additional in-depth modules follow in semesters seven to nine, for example advanced seminars in the fields of business administration and economics.

In the one-year foundation and orientation phase, you will acquire basic knowledge of the content and methods of economics. It is completed with a basic and orientation examination, for which you must complete modules totalling 20 ECTS credits. The ECTS credits earned in the subject of economics, together with the corresponding ECTS credits from the other subject after the second semester, must total at least 40 ECTS credits.

The study of economics is suitable for prospective students with:

  • An interest in current business and economic issues.
  • enjoy dealing with complex, controversial and current economic issues
  • the ability to work independently with English-language (technical) literature on topics
  • the willingness to learn and understand analytical economic models

In view of the fact that typical career profiles for graduates of bachelor’s degree programs in Germany will only emerge in the course of the next few years, the program places particular emphasis on teaching versatile competencies as well as communication and reflection skills.
