Special features

This is an integrated course of study sponsored by the Franco-German University, offered in cooperation with the Université Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand, which includes a two-semester stay at the partner university and leads to the acquisition of a joint degree. The following semester structure is planned:

1st/2nd semester at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg

3rd/4th semester at the Université Clermont Auvergne

5th/6th semester at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg

First-year students in the BA program “Literature and Books” take a placement test to assess their French language skills before the semester begins. The placement test enables students to be assigned to the appropriate courses in the first language practice modules.

What is the degree program about?

The Studies in Literature and Books degree program aims to combine the scientific dimension of French-Romance and German literature and cultural studies and book studies, with special emphasis on the German-French perspective, as well as the practical dimension of teaching far above-average language skills, especially in the field of specialized languages.

The first year of study at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg consists of introductory courses in the fields of French and German literature and cultural studies and book studies as well as practical language courses. The second year of study includes a stay at our partner university, in the course of which professional-methodical and linguistic-practical competencies are further developed. In the third year of study, the studies are continued at FAU, especially in the subject-related areas and also taking into account the interdisciplinary perspective.

The degree program “Studies in Literature and Books” is a modularized single-subject Bachelor’s degree program.

The program aims to combine the scientific dimension of Franco-Romance and Germanic cultural and literary studies and book studies, as well as the practical dimension of teaching far above-average language skills, especially in the field of specialized linguistics and book studies.

As a professional qualification, the degree program imparts competencies that qualify students for the following fields of activity, among others, especially at the interfaces of the book industry, literature and culture in a German-French context:
