University elections

FAU Elections Office

Representatives are elected to the Senate, the five Faculty Councils, the School of Theology’s Appointments Council and the Students’ Representatives Governing Board of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in the university elections. They form the basis for academic autonomy at the University. While the student representatives are elected each year, representatives of the university lecturers, research staff and other staff are elected once every two years (next election in 2021).

Please note that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 University election will be held as a postal vote only on 14 July 2020.

The postal vote documents (postal vote with the completed ballot paper) must be received by the Elections Office by 3pm on 14 July 2020. The postal vote documents will be sent automatically, you do not need to apply for them.

Election for the doctoral candidates’ representatives

The doctoral candidates’ representatives represent the interests of doctoral candidates. They have an advisory function within FAU’s committees and offer individual support for doctoral degree candidates. Two doctoral candidates are elected at each faculty. The persons from each faculty who are elected in this manner form the Doctoral Candidates’ Council. The election takes place each year at the same time as the general University election and doctoral candidates registered in docDaten receive postal vote documents.

The election for the doctoral candidates’ representatives will be held at the same time as the general university election. Votes in the election for the doctoral candidates’ representatives may only be cast by postal vote. Postal vote documents are sent automatically by the Elections Office to those eligible to vote.

The voting letter with the completed ballot paper must be received by the Elections Office by 3pm on July 14 2020 at the latest (day of the general university election).
