University elections

FAU Elections Office

Representatives are elected to the Senate, the five Faculty Councils, the School of Theology’s Appointments Council and the Students’ Representatives Governing Board of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in the university elections. They form the basis for academic autonomy at the University. While the student representatives are elected each year, representatives of the university lecturers, research staff and other staff are elected once every two years (next election in 2021).

The results of the 2020 election have now been confirmed. The results of the university election are available at ‘Electoral turnout and election results from previous years’ and the results of the election for the doctoral candidates’ representatives are available at ‘Elections for doctoral candidates’ representatives’.

We are pleased to report that the turnout this year was on average 50 % higher than last year. With almost 27.5%, the highest turnout was for the election for the Faculty Council at the Faculty of Medicine, whilst the greatest increase from a turnout of 6.61% in 2019 to 20.64% this year was for the election of the Appointments Council at the School of Theology. A total of 16.51% (2019: 10.98%) of those eligible to vote voted for the Student Council.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 University election was held exclusively as a postal vote. The postal vote documents (postal vote with the completed ballot paper) had to be received by the Elections Office by 3pm on 14 July 2020.
