“Lauf gegen Krebs” (race against cancer)
The popular charity event “Lauf gegen Krebs” (Race against cancer) is being held in the beautiful Erlangen Schlossgarten for the 11th time this year.
Charity event: Coming together for a good cause!
On October 12, 2024 it is time to put your running shoes on, get set and go, running laps together for a good cause. More than 2,000 runners, including a number of cancer patients and their relatives, have risen to the challenge each year, making the event a great success every time.
The patron of the popular charity run is the President of FAU, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger. The run is organized by the charity Verein für Ernährungsmedizin und Bewegung & Sport bei Krebs e.V. (NUMEAS), and supported by the Hector Center for Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at Department of Medicine 1– Gastroenterology, Pneumology and Endocrinology at Uniklinikum Erlangen, the Comprehensive Cancer Center Erlangen-EMN and FAU.

- From 12 pm until 5 pm we offer the perfect run for every age and ability.
- Like always, we get off to a dynamic start at 12 pm with the kids’ fun run round the fountain, roughly 320 m in length. From 12:30 pm, crowds of school children run laps round the 900 meter long track.
- 1:30 pm signals the start of the Novartis Run 25’ for ambitious runners, who run as many quick laps as possible in a 25 minute period.
- The races for adolescents and adults start at 2 pm.
The loop is around 900 meters long and leads runners through the Schlossgarten in Erlangen. The start and finish area is located near the Schloss. The completed laps will be recorded automatically using transponder chips.
All participants will receive a medal approximately 30 minutes after the end of the race.
Prizes and starting fees
The starting fee for the young adults’ (over 15s) and adults’ run is 15 euros. The kids’ fun run and the school children’s race are free.
There are prize-giving ceremonies for the largest groups in the kids’ fun run and children’s races as well as for the three men and the three women who run the most laps in the Novartis race. There are great prizes to be won.
Everyone can look forward to a large tombola and a lot more besides. Come along and join in the fun!
What are donations for?
All donations go towards funding treatment and research into cancer based on nutrition and sport. This directly benefits cancer patients in the region. It is planned to use the donations to purchase special training equipment to record and improve the physical activity and performance of cancer patients.
