Full Professorship (W3) for Modern German Literature and Comparative Studies

at the Department of German Language and Literature. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by 01.04.2023.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. Candidates are expected to specialise in literature of the saddle period and the 19th century, with a focus on comparative studies (incorporating other art forms). We expect a positive track record in acquiring third-party funding and an established research profile indicated by internationally visible publications and a strong academic network. Experience in interdisciplinary collaborative research is desirable, and the professor is expected to link their research to the key research priorities of FAU and the faculty. The successful candidate will be actively involved in the Master’s degree programme Ethics of Textual Cultures, and will take an active part in the degree programmes offered by the Department (BA German Language and Literature, MA German Language and Literature, all teaching degrees in German including the State Examination) and in the degree programme MA Literature Studies – intermedial and intercultural. The professor is also expected to assist in shaping the profile of the Department.

Successful candidates show an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. Tenure Track Professorship for Neural Epigenomics

(W2 / Associate Professor)

at the Institute for Medical Physics and Microtissue Engineering in close collaboration with the Institute of Biochemistry. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers a long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The duties of the professorship include conducting research into epigenetic mechanisms in the development, physiology, or pathology of the nervous system in conjunction with the development of approaches for manipulating and analysing the neural epigenome. The aim of the professorship is to develop the Faculty of Medicine’s research focus areas in the field of neurodevelopment research in both existing research networks (DFG RTG 2162, ForInter) and planned research networks. We welcome applications from experts in the early stages of their research career with knowledge of epigenomics in healthy and diseased nervous systems using optogenetics/chemogenetics, CRISPF/Cas9 systems and/or bioinformatics.

The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

W2 Endowed Professorship for Experimental Nutritional and Sports Medicine

(Associate Professor)

at the Department of Medicine 1– Gastroenterology, Pneumology and Endocrinology. The professorship is a full-time position for the period of six years to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile and who will represent the field of experimental nutritional and sports medicine in research and teaching at the Hector Center for Nutrition, Exercise, and Sports. In particular, candidates will be expected to develop strategic concepts for clinical and experimental areas of tumour diseases or metabolic syndrome in obesity in order to further develop links between sports medicine and nutritional medicine at the Hector Center. The successful candidate must have experience in research in the field of sports science, sports medicine or nutritional medicine as well as in-depth expertise in methods in sports medicine and in treating patients with the conditions named above. Combined research activities in sports medicine and nutritional medicine are an advantage.

Close collaboration with the other institutes and departments of the Faculty of Medicine and relevant departments in the other faculties at the University is expected as well as in research networks (Collaborative Research Centres and interdisciplinary centres). The aim of the professorship is to strengthen the areas of research in tumour research and infectiology and immunology at the Faculty of Medicine by means of collaboration in existing and planned collaborative research projects. The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programmes in medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine, medical process management, midwifery science and logopaedics. The successful candidate is expected to participate in teaching these degree programmes and the teaching language is usually German.

The professorship is a permanent position to be filled by 01.01.2022. Medizincampus Oberfranken is an innovative collaborative project involving FAU, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, Klinikum Bayreuth GmbH and the University of Bayreuth which will offer clinical and research-based training for medical students in Bayreuth coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine at FAU.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The successful candidate is expected to represent the field adequately in research, teaching, and patient care at Medizincampus Oberfranken. The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in the establishment of medical training and research activities in the field of general medicine in interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues at Medizincampus Oberfranken and FAU in Erlangen, with its extensive research networks. The professor will also be expected to establish a network with local doctors in the Upper Franconian region in order to train students in general practice.

The new professor shall also be appointed Director of the soon to be established Institute for General Practice at Klinikum Bayreuth GmbH and be involved in the Medical Centre at Klinikum Bayreuth GmbH.

W2/W3 Professorship for Modelling Immune Processes

at the Department of Medicine 5 – Haematology and Oncology, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, as part of the High-Tech Agenda Bavaria and in association with the German Centre for Immunotherapy (DZI). The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for a period of five years. The position will be appointed as a W2 or W3 professorship depending on the applicant’s qualifications.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile and expertise in the analytical modelling of processes in the immune system.

The aim of the professorship is to gain a better understanding of highly complex immunological processes, for example following an allogeneic stem cell transplant, using AI and simulations. The innovative algorithms developed for this purpose (e.g. multi-layered artificial neural networks, agent-based and systems biology based simulations, pattern recognition of immune signatures) promise to make a valuable contribution to a number of related specialist areas such as haematology, oncology, rheumatology and infectiology.

We expect active participation in the various research networks (collaborative research centres, research training groups, Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research) at Universitätsklinkum Erlangen and the professor will also be expected to teach students in both German and English. The degree programmes taught at the Faculty of Medicine include medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine, medical process management and logopaedics, as well as the interdisciplinary degree programmes in medical engineering and integrated immunology.

We seek to appoint a top early career scientist who will develop outstanding expertise in the field. The ideal candidate is an outstanding, highly visible early career scientist with an independent research and teaching profile in the fundamentals of data science, for example, statistical modelling, mathematical foundations of machine learning, modern algorithms for data science, numerical analysis, harmonic analysis, mathematical analysis of large data sets, mathematics of edge computing, information geometry, or statistical manifolds.
