at the new Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering. The professorships are full-time and permanent positions to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint leading experts with an internationally visible research and teaching profile, particularly in the following areas:

  • Human-technology interaction (e.g. intelligent multimodal medical UI, smart scanning support, brain-computer-interfaces, neuromonitoring)
  • Autonomous and intelligent data acquisition (e.g. automatic quality assurance, smart examination, scan optimisation)
  • Data integration, representation and visualisation (e.g. knowledge representation, smart research data management/semantic interoperability, process optimisation, process mining)
  • Computational methods for bioinformatics (e.g. artificial intelligence for analytics,
    -omics, computational neuroscience)

The successful candidates will be expected to participate in teaching on the new consecutive Bachelor’s/Master’s degree programme in Artificial Intelligence and to be involved in setting up this programme. The professors will also be expected to contribute to existing degree programmes such as Medical Engineering, Medical Process Management, and Data Science. The professors will be members of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering.

Successful candidates show an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are desired. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. We seek to appoint a leading expert in pharmaceutical biology with an internationally visible research profile focused on a current topic such as molecular mechanisms of proteinaceous, biogenic, or membrane-active drugs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching pharmaceutical biology in the degree programmes in Pharmacy and Biology.

Based on an innovative research program, the successful candidate will strategically enhance the key research priorities of the Department of Biology ‘Signalling and Differentiation, ‘Immunity and Infection Biology’ as well as ‘Membrane Biology’, and will strengthen interdisciplinary efforts in these areas. Tenure Track W2 Heisenberg Professorship for Organic Chemistry

(Associate Professor)

at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile, and who should adequately represent the field of organic chemistry in research and teaching. Candidates should have an international standing in the research fields of supramolecular chemistry and molecular switches. A future-oriented research project should strengthen the profile of chemistry in Erlangen in the field of molecular materials with functional properties such as energy conversion and organic electronics. Active participation in interdisciplinary research and teaching activities such as SFB 953, the Interdisciplinary Center for Molecular Materials (ICMM) and the Graduate School Molecular Science (GSMS) is expected.

The establishment of the professorship is dependent on the individual successfully applying to and securing funding for a Heisenberg Professorship from the DFG Heisenberg Programme after being appointed by the University. According to DFG regulations, the W2 position shall be initially limited to three years. A permanent position may be granted following a positive evaluation by the DFG and the University three years after the initial appointment without requiring a new appointment procedure.
