The Faculty of Sciences at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

W2 Professorship in Bioinorganic Chemistry (Associate Professor)

at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile in bioinorganic chemistry. Successful candidates shall establish and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration with research groups in medicine and biology as well as strengthen the research links between chemistry and the life sciences. The candidate should be willing to participate actively in current and planned collaborative initiatives as well as assume teaching duties in inorganic chemistry.

Successful candidates demonstrate excellent academic achievements in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates should be able and willing to teach in both English and German. Additional postdoctoral qualifications in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis or the equivalent thereof) are required. You may also have acquired the necessary qualifications in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).

W2 Professorship for Scientific Computing (Associate Professor)

at the Department of Mathematics. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled at the earliest starting date.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile. Successful candidates have demonstrated outstanding research in a modern field of scientific computing preferably having focused on partial differential equations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), high-performance computing, or inverse problems. Priority will be given to applications in engineering, natural sciences or medicine. Candidates will be expected to teach students of mathematics and engineering.

Tenure Track W2 Heisenberg Professorship for Cellular Morphogenesis

(Associate Professor)

at the Department of Biology. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile focused on the mechanism and control of morphogenetic processes in plant cells, such as e.g. cytokinesis, directional membrane transport, or local cell wall biogenesis. The successful candidate will have outstanding expertise in high-resolution fluorescence microscopy and related technologies. The professor’s innovative, state of the art research concept will strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration as well as the research focus areas ‘Signaling and differentiation’, ‘Immunity and infection biology’ and/or ‘Membrane biology’ at the Department of Biology. They will be expected to actively contribute and lead the establishment of extramurally funded research networks.

The professorship will be established as part of the Heisenberg programme of the German Research Association (DFG). The establishment of the professorship is dependent on the individual successfully applying to and securing funding for a Heisenberg Professorship from the DFG Heisenberg Programme following the University’s internal appointment procedure. According to DFG regulations, the W2 position shall be initially limited to three years. A permanent position will be granted after a positive evaluation by DFG and the university three years after the initial appointment. If the position is to be continued after this three-year period, a new appointment procedure is not required.
