Full Professorship (W3) for Economics (Chair)

at the School of Business, Economics and Society as a joint appointment in collaboration with the ifo Institute. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by 01.01.2021.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The professorship includes the management of the Ludwig Erhard ifo Institute for Social Market and Institutional Economics in Fürth, which is currently being established as a branch of the ifo Institute Munich. Once appointed to the professorship, the professor will be granted leave in order to carry out their managerial tasks at the Institute. The appointed professor shall enter into a services agreement with the ifo Institute.

The successful candidate will represent the subject of economics focusing on institutional economics or another research area relevant to the development of the social market economy and is expected to participate in the curriculum of the School of Business, Economics and Society, including examinations (a teaching workload of 2 semester hours is planned for the time during which the professor is granted leave). In addition to their scientific qualifications, applicants should demonstrate expertise in leadership and previous experience in managing a scientific department or research group. The professor will be expected to contribute to debate on economic policy and should be capable of communicating their research and findings to the general public and in the media in an understandable way.

Candidates who have specialised in an area related to the development of the social market economy, international systemic competition or European integration will be considered with particular interest. We explicitly welcome applications that are related to applied research, show interest in current issues in economic policy and political debate and that can be integrated into the research landscape of the School of Business, Economics and Society.

Successful candidates show an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. Full Professorship (W3) for Renewable Energy Technology (Open Topic)

at the Department of Electrical Engineering. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The successful candidate will be appointed to a leadership position as the Chair of Renewable Energy Technology and represent research and teaching in this field. Applicants are expected to have conducted outstanding research in one or several of the following areas and are also expected to have project and/or industry experience:

  • Renewable power generation: e.g. wind energy and photovoltaic systems, thermal solar power plants
  • Electrical energy storage systems and conversion systems: e.g. battery storage, electrolysis, fuel cells
  • Electrical drives and machines
  • Market solutions for sustainable energy concepts considering sector coupling

Applications with other related research areas are also welcome.

at the Department of Electrical Engineering. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The successful candidate will be appointed to a leadership position as the Chair of Electronics Engineering and represent research and teaching in this field. Applicants are expected to have conducted outstanding research in one or several of the following areas:

  • Electronic systems
  • Circuit technology
  • Integrated microwave / millimetre-wave circuits
  • High-precision analog or mixed-signal integrated circuits

A willingness to collaborate with other departments at the University, with external research facilities and with industry is expected. The professor will be required to teach in the degree programmes offered by the Department and related disciplines at the Faculty of Engineering. In particular, the professor will be expected to contribute to existing compulsory lectures and practical modules offered by the Chair of Electronics Engineering.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The successful candidate will focus on issues relating to digitalisation in the classroom both in general and for specific subjects (in view of content, methods, and learning outcomes) and issues relevant to an interdisciplinary context (skills in the digital world, the impact of digital media on lessons). The successful candidate is expected to have already gathered experience in empirical research in this specialist area. The professor will lecture in teaching degree programmes including the supplementary course in Media Education, and is expected to collaborate with central institutions at FAU, in particular the Laboratory for Digital Teaching and Learning (DigiLLab).

at the Department of Mathematics. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by 01.04.2021.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile in stochastics. Successful candidates are expected to have an internationally outstanding profile in current areas of research in theoretical stochastics, with expertise in a wide range of topics. Their research activities should strengthen the existing working groups at FAU. Candidates are also expected to have proven experience in interdisciplinary issues. The teaching duties include introductory and advanced lectures in probability theory, both for studies in mathematics and data sciences and as part of a teaching degree programme. Moreover, the candidate should generally be willing to teach introductory mathematics classes and contribute to academic events.
