The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Medical Data Science

at the newly established Institute of Medical AI and High-tech Research. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

The professorship entails involvement in the collaborative project d.DiM: Digital Disease Management. The successful candidate must be willing to interact with the other AI stakeholders in the digital health hub (https://www.bayern.de/hightech-agenda-bayern/ ) and initiate joint activities/research projects. The professor will also be a secondary member of the Faculty of Engineering in the newly established Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The successful candidate should have an international reputation in research into medical data science and experience in analysing routine clinical data. Research areas of the professorship should focus on syntactic and semantic interoperability, intelligent procedures for data integration and data harmonization, data warehousing and analytics. The professor will be involved in teaching medicine, computer science (minor subject medical computer science), medical engineering, artificial intelligence (Faculty of Engineering), data science with minor subject medical data science (Faculty of Sciences) and medical process management.

Successful candidates show an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. The Faculty of Sciences at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

Tenure Track Professorship for Integrated Immunology

(W2 / Associate Professor)

at the Institute of Genetics at the Department of Biology. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of five years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile in basic or translational immunology. As the W2 professorship is a central part of the newly established Master’s degree programme in Integrated Immunology at the Department of Biology funded through the Elite Network of Bavaria, we expect the successful candidate to play an active role in developing and running this Master’s degree programme. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to strengthen the DFG-funded collaborative research consortia on immunology and molecular biology, such as TRR 130, TRR 221, CRC 1181, FOR 2886, FOR 2953, RTG 2599, and RTG 2504.

The Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law invites applications for a

W1 Professorship for Macroeconomics and Labor Market Research

(Assistant Professor)

at the School of Business, Economics and Society. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Upon successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended for another three years.

We seek to appoint a top early career scholar who will develop outstanding expertise in the field of macroeconomics and labor market research. The successful candidate is expected to have a high level of expertise in applied macroeconomic labor market theory and in applied macroeconometrics. Experience in the use of large labor market data sets and time series data for macroeconomics research is desirable.

The position is to be filled as part of a joint call for applications made by the University in conjunction with the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) of the Federal Employment Agency. For the duration of the assistant professorship, the successful candidate is expected to work as a research associate at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in the research department forecasts and macroeconomic analyses. For this purpose, the successful candidate’s working time at the University will be reduced to 50% of the regular working time. A separate employment contract for the remaining 50% of the working time will be concluded with IAB. Teaching hours will also be reduced by half due to the transfer of duties to IAB.

at the School of Theology at the Institute of Practical Theology. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by 1 April 2023.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile. Duties include critical reflection upon the diverse forms of media communication in the media, in religious contexts and in the Church, assessing them on the basis of ethical standards, and contributing to current discourse in Digital theology. Teaching duties include training in journalism as part of the Master’s degree programme in ‘Media – Ethics – Religion’ as well as regular contributions to practical theological training in all degree programmes in Theology and collaboration in interdisciplinary contexts at FAU. Experience in publishing beyond the academic field is essential.

at the Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering.

The professorship is part of the Federal and State programme for supporting young researchers and is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Upon successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended for another three years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W3 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint a top early career scientist who will develop outstanding expertise in the field of artificial intelligence in biomedical engineering focusing on data, sensors and devices/digital transformation. Candidates should have already developed their own teaching and research profile, particularly in the following areas:

  • Human-technology interaction (e.g. intelligent multimodal medical UI, smart scanning support, brain-computer interface, neuromonitoring)
  • Autonomous and intelligent data acquisition (e. g. automated quality assurance, smart examination, scan optimisation)
  • Data integration, representation and visualisation (e. g. knowledge representation, smart research data management/semantic interoperability, process optimisation, process mining)
  • Computational methods for bioinformatics (e. g. artificial intelligence for analytics,
    -omics, computational neuroscience)
  • Intelligent materials and sensors (e. g. sensory/biosensory materials, intelligent sensing, sensing and analysis of human motion and emotion, lab on a chip for digital diagnostics, neuromorphic circuits)

Successful candidates must be willing to collaborate in setting up and teaching a new Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme in Artificial Intelligence in addition to teaching in existing degree programmes such as Medical Engineering, Medical Process Management and Data Science. The professor will be appointed as a member of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering.

The professorship follows the requirements of the Federal and state programme for supporting young researchers at German universities. The position announced in this call for applications will strengthen research and teaching in the field of Sensory Sciences.

We seek to appoint a top early career scientist who will develop outstanding expertise in the field of surface technology of polymer materials. The professorship is intended to complement research into polymer technology with regard to functional surfaces by focusing on surfaces and their technologies that interact with natural cellular structures to achieve new biological, medical and pharmaceutical functions. Furthermore, the orientation of the professorship also includes the modelling and simulation of functional principles to gain an understanding of the interaction of polymer materials and their modifications with natural materials.
