In total, an 8-week industrial internship must be completed.

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor’s degree program in I&C, the academic degree B. Sc. (Bachelor of Science) is awarded.

• Study plans are designed carefully and lecture theatres, laboratories and other research facilities on the Faculty of Engineering’s campus are all very close to one another, ensuring you will be able to study efficiently and successfully.
• FAU’s information and communication technology lecturers have an excellent reputation internationally. Their research has received many awards.
• The research in information and communication technology carried out at FAU is unique in Germany. Together the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits – the home of MP3 – and the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering form International Audio Laboratories Erlangen, the only research centre of its kind in the world, which specialises in audio and multimedia technologies.
• FAU is involved in Medical Valley EMN, one of the most economically powerful, research-focused medical engineering clusters in the world.
• Lecturers are part of Energie Campus Nürnberg where they work together with colleagues from other areas to find solutions to key issues that affect the future (e.g. smart grids).
• At FAU students benefit from ideal conditions with regard to both the teaching they receive and the opportunities they have to contribute to research through project work and their final theses.
• We run a two-week mathematics course before the start of the degree program for all new students who would like to brush up on their knowledge.

Dynamic companies in the information and communication technology sector place great importance on striking a balance between having a career and having a family.

• The range of possible areas where graduates may pursue careers is as diverse as the content of the degree program itself. Specialists in information and communication technology have true vision and help to shape the future, meaning that they can work in many different fields. They are not limited to a specific profession.
• Most information and communication technology graduates find jobs at companies that provide communication services (network equipment, mobile communications, internet providers), manufacturers that produce telecommunication devices (fixed or mobile devices), network equipment providers (telephone exchanges, radio stations), computer manufacturers, or software development companies. Their expertise is also required in the automotive and electronics industries.
• Many employers see information and communication technology as the number one factor driving innovation, meaning that graduates of this subject have excellent career prospects. In addition, starting salaries are usually very high.

• Information and communication technology is a discipline of engineering and this is reflected in the degree program, where students learn how to develop innovative technical products. It is unrelated to communication studies or marketing.
• You are required to complete work placements lasting a total of eight weeks as part of the degree program. You will be at an advantage if you complete part of this before starting the degree program, i.e. between finishing school and starting the first semester.
• You will need to be able to work independently so that you can work on certain content by yourself. Teamwork and social skills are required for tutorials and laboratory work.
