As Chancellor of FAU, Christian Zens is the head of the university’s administration. Within the university management team, his responsibilities include the budget and property and asset management.
Curriculum vitae
Christian Zens (born in 1961) studied law at LMU Munich from 1982 to 1988. After passing the first State Examination, he completed his legal training at the Higher Regional Court in Munich from 1988 to 1991, and passed the second State Examination.
In 1991 he took on the position of head of department at the Federal Property Office in Frankfurt an der Oder. In January 1993, he became acting head of the Office and was appointed as its director in September 1993. In 2003, he was appointed head of section and deputy head of department at the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (BADV). In 2005, he was appointed as an officer at the Federal Ministry of Finance responsible for the legal supervision of the BADV before again taking on the position of head of section and deputy head of department at the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (BADV) in July 2006.
He was Chancellor at the European University Viadrina from 2007 to 2017. In 2007, he also became involved in the IT working group of the national association of university chancellors for the first time and has been a member ever since. He was director of the working group from 2014 to 2018.
He has also been a member of the board of the German National Research and Education Network (DFN) since 2018.
He was appointed Chancellor of FAU in February 2017.
