Results of 2016 CWUR ranking have been published

FAU’s position among the world’s top universities has been confirmed once again in the latest list by the Center for World University Rankings, which puts FAU at number 194 internationally out of the 25,000 universities it evaluated. In the national comparison the University ranks at number 13.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) compares 25,000 universities from across the globe in terms of the quality of their teaching, the reputation of their researchers and the quality of their research. What is unique about the CWUR is that it uses public sources of information, while most other rankings use information provided by the universities themselves.

This year is the first time that FAU has made it into the top 200. The University is ranked particularly highly for the ‘broad impact’ indicator, which is based on the international reputation of a university’s researchers. In this category FAU ranks at 127. The University also achieved excellent results in terms of the number of publications in reputable journals (place 169), the number of publications in highly influential journals (place 195) and the number of highly cited publications (place 160).

The ranking

Each year, the CWUR ranks evaluates universities using the following indicators: quality of education, measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have won major international awards; alumni employment, measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have held CEO positions at the world’s top companies; quality of faculty, measured by the number of academics who have won major international awards; publications, measured by the number of research papers appearing in reputable journals; influence, measured by the number of research papers appearing in highly influential journals; citations, measured by the number of highly cited research papers; broad impact, measured by the university’s h-index; and patents, measured by the number of international patent filings.
