In our student accommodations provided by Studentenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg!

Every year, around 4,000 students come from abroad to FAU in Erlangen and Nuremberg. To help these ‘Internationals’ to settle in as quickly as possible, Studentenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg provides a variety of accommodation options in the cities. How to apply for a room in the dormitories, and what you need to consider, is explained by Mr. Uwe Scheer from the Studentenwerk:

How can one apply for a place in the dorm?

Applications are made online via the ‘Housing’ section of our website.

What must I consider when applying for a dormitory?

Try not to be too selective: if in doubt, apply for as many residences as possible. As selection is needs-based, provide information about your own financial situation: How much money can you afford each month? What are your parents’ professions? Are any of your siblings also currently in education?

Are there any application deadlines?

You can apply at any time for a place to live, selection isn’t based on the date of receipt of the application. However, in the run-up to the winter semester you should of course apply as early as possible.

What kind of rooms are available to students?

We offer a wide range of housing types, from the classic dormitory, to single and double apartments and group apartments, to apartments for student families with children, and also barrier-free apartments for students with disabilities.

What are the costs to students?

Our rental rates are very cheap and vary depending on the area and type of the accommodation. In Erlangen, for example, you can find a dormitory room or a place in a shared residence for just under 200 Euro monthly ‘warm’ rent (including heating), and there are many single apartments in the price range between 200 and 250 Euro. For accommodation in Nuremberg, similar prices apply.

Where are the Studentenwerk dorms?

All our dormitories – especially in Erlangen and Nuremberg – are conveniently located near the university institutions, so that they can be easily reached by bicycle or by public transport.

Who can I contact?

Depending on which university location interests you, our residential service in Erlangen or Nuremberg, the contact details (telephone and e-mail) can be found on the homepage of the Studentenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg under the heading ‘Housing’.
