Zu Besuch in den International Audio Laboratories Erlangen

Every semester, FAU president Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger visits professors who have just recently joined FAU. At their respective institutes, he gets to know them better as they talk about their research and share what is important to them.

This series brings a brief introduction of the researcher and allows a peek into such visit by the president.

We start with the visit to Prof. Dr. Nils Peters from the Professorship for Audio Signal Processing. He does his research at the International Audio Laboratories Erlangen of which one part belongs to FAU while the other belongs to the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS.

One of his core focus areas is audio signal processing for the Internet of Things.

Nils Peters wants to train computers to understand spatial sound fields just the way humans can.

Before coming to FAU, he was a researcher at Qualcomm in California for seven years.

As a child, Nils Peters first dreamt of becoming a truck driver for lemonade and later switched to astronomer.
