A cup with the President – Episode 3: Prof. Dr. Petra Imhof

Visiting the Technical Director of the Computer Chemistry Center

Each semester, FAU president Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger sets out to visit professors who have just recently joined FAU. At their respective institutes, he gets to know them better as they talk about their research and share what is important to them.

This series brings a brief introduction of the researcher and allows a peek into such a visit by the president.

In Episode 3, the president visits Prof. Dr. Petra Imhof. She holds the professorship for Computational Chemistry and is the Technical Director of the Computer Chemistry Center.

Petra Imhof uses molecular simulations in order to learn about how biochemical and biophysical processes work. Her work includes researching  enzymatic reactions… 

… and how highly specific proteins find their substrate. It’s especially the protein DNA interplay that she’s keen on learning more about.

Prior to FAU, she conducted her research at Universitet Stavanger. And before that she worked at FU Berlin.

Her most important tool as a professor is her laptop. And, she’s always wanted to run a full marathon.
