Habilitation

In some disciplines, a habilitation in preparation for a professorship is considered to be an asset, despite appointment to a W1 professorship. If you would like to know more about postdoctoral qualifications at FAU, see this website for additional information.

Postdoctoral equivalence

When you apply for a professorship, the appointments committee of the university usually decides whether your prior performance should be deemed the equivalent of a postdoctoral qualification where this is lacking.

Depending on conventions in the discipline in question, FAU may certify that you have successfully completed an intermediate evaluation for a W1 professorship as an equivalent to a postdoctoral lecturing qualification. Once the intermediate evaluation has been completed, the faculty will issue a detailed certificate, which may also confirm that you hold a postdoctoral equivalence qualification(Section 9 (3) of the Regulations on Structures, Procedures and Quality Standards of Tenure-Track Professorships and the Evaluation of Professorships at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Tenure Track Regulations) (German). The certificate may also provide information about the evaluation, including the type of and criteria used for the evaluation procedure. This certificate may be particularly useful when applying for a professorship.

For more detailed information, please contact the Dean’s Office at your faculty.

Seminars

We offer numerous seminars and events for our postdoctoral candidates, which may also be of assistance and interest to you as a W1 professor. Do you need any specific information about further qualifications? Please do not hesitate to contact us. Please feel free to address any questions and suggestions to Kerstin Puls in the Office of Research Career Development and Graduate Centre.

FAUprofund programme

The FAUprofund programme (Professional Third Party Funding in Research) aims to ensure that young researchers are familiar with the procedures involved in applying for third-party funding. As part of the programme we provide support on this topic and offer you the opportunity to participate in targeted professional development measures for your research career.
