History (M.A.)

The master’s degree program in history will provide you with the competencies to develop independent scientific questions and to arrive at answers to them through systematic investigation. In addition to the scientific-historical competence, this model will also enable you to efficiently open up new areas of knowledge and to present them professionally.

What is the degree program about?

In the master’s degree program in history, you will be taught in-depth scientific knowledge about the history of various epochs and regions on the basis of discussion of the latest research findings and extensive source work, and you will be guided to conduct independent research. In doing so, you will have the opportunity to develop an individual study and research profile, with epoch-specific emphases in the following areas:

  • Ancient History
  • Medieval history
  • History of the Early Modern Period
  • Modern History
  • Eastern European History
  • Bavarian and Franconian Regional History

With the offers of the chairs of Bavarian and Franconian Regional History as well as Eastern European History you can also specialize spatially. Further differentiation or thematic focus is also possible according to the research profiles at the department.
