In the international THE World University Ranking, FAU remains among the top 10 percent of participating universities in 2023. We are particularly pleased to have gained the top place in the area of Industry.

A team of researchers led by Prof. Dr. Anne Koelewijn and researchers from Universität Innsbruck are using the analysis system FAME to investigate: Why are special training programs so effective in protecting the anterior cruciate ligament? The answer to this question could help athletes prepare for competitions and reduce the number of injuries.

A large turnout to congratulate FAU immunologist Georg Schett on winning the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize. FAU Vice President Prof. Dr. Georg Schett was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize from the German Research Foundation (DFG) in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements.

FAU duly celebrated its doctoral graduates. Together with the doctoral jubilarians who earned their doctorates 15, 25 and 50 years ago, they were recognized for their achievements by FAU's university administration and numerous guests.

Antibodies are crucial, not only for treating tumors and infections. Sometimes, however, the immune reaction they trigger can be too strong and end up causing more damage, for example in the case of people infected with Covid-19. Problems such as these can often be avoided by finetuning antibodies, as Prof. Dr. Falk Nimmerjahn from FAU and two of his colleagues in the Netherlands and in the UK have now reported in the journal Nature Immunology.

The origins of a high-energy shower of relativistic particles that is constantly impacting the Earth’s atmosphere is one of the greatest mysteries of modern astroparticle physics. A team of researchers is now unlocking this mystery. With the IceCube detector at the Earth’s South Pole, they have been able to detect neutrinos from our Milky Way.
