Innovation in motion

President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger invited guests to celebrate the 276th anniversary of FAU ‘Dies academicus’ at the School of Business, Economics and Society in Nuremberg on 4 November 2019. This year is a particularly special occasion, as the School of Business, Economics and Society is celebrating its 100th anniversary. At the event, the University awarded an FAU ambassador and honorary member of the Senate the FAU Distinguished Service Medal. The President’sreport focused on the events of the past year. Bioprocess engineer Prof. Dr. Kathrin Castiglione and the entrepreneur Hans Rudolf Wöhrl held two ceremonial lectures in celebration of the 276th Dies academicus. Prof. Castiglione addressed the transition from the crude oil industry to a sustainable biological economy as one of the key challenges of our time. Hans Rudolf Wöhrl’s lecture dealt with the question of how much education people need as entrepreneurs.

Recognising the achievements of international students

Prizes for postdoctoral research and the Renate-Wittern-Sterzel prize that recognises innovative projects at FAU promoting the equality of opportunity were also awarded at the Ceremony. During the late afternoon, the FAU teaching prize and prizes from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Hans-Wilhelm-und-Helga-Schüßler Foundation were awarded. The Hans-Wilhelm-und-Helga-Schüßler prize honours two international students each year for outstanding achievements in their studies while demonstrating an exceptional contribution to society.
