A team of researchers at FAU has now completed detailed modelling of the Covid-19 pandemic and has derived potential strategies for a controlled easing of restrictions.

People wearing face masks on the streets are becoming more commonplace. Medical face and respiratory masks are now scarce and not easy to obtain. Many are taking matters into their own hands by sewing DIY masks. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a great deal of upheaval – also at FAU. Some students are now facing serious financial difficulties through no fault of their own. FAU would like to offer its support in this situation with the #FAU4FAU – Staff for Students fundraising campaign.

A type of video monitoring could help us get the better of coronavirus: Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Light and FAU are trying to observe how cells become infected with Sars-CoV-2 in real time. They are hoping to achieve this by installing a particularly powerful microscope in a high-security virology laboratory.

Helping each other is the order of the day. This not only applies in your neighbourhood, but also at the University. Chairs and institutes at FAU have started collaborating with Neue Materialien Fürth (NMF) GmbH, a research centre of the Bavarian State, to manufacture personal protective equipment that is urgently needed by medical staff at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen.
