A hot summer weekend: On Saturday, guests flocked to FAU’s 70th Schlossgartenfest for an enjoyable evening in perfect weather conditions.
A varied program was laid on for the guests: The FAU Big Band, conducted by Simon Scharf, played in area B, and the Jazz Big Band K36 in front of the Geozentrum building. With his welcome speech in front of the Orangerie, FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger officially opened the 70th Schlossgartenfest of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Then guests took to the dance floor accompanied by several live bands: The dance band Picobello from Nuremberg played in front of the Kollegienhaus, the Schaeffler Bigband at the center stage on the main path, Los Chicolores in front of the Botanical Garden and A Kaisers Salonorchester in area A. At 11 pm, it was time for another show highlight at the illuminated fountain: Baroque fireworks, followed by the main firework display. The party continued on until 2 o’clock in the morning.
Away from the dance floor, there was still plenty on offer for guests, many of them students – for instance the discovery trail, following on from last year’s success. Here, guests were able to learn all about and marvel at various research projects and topics pursued by our researchers and students, including for example a walk-through XXL heart from Uniklinikum Erlangen, a racing track with solar-powered cars from FAU Solar or information on how insects are used to protect plants in the Botanical Garden. After visiting at least five of the seven stations in total, guests earned a discount on one of the hugely popular science cocktails at one of the bars. Guests could also discuss exciting topics while enjoying a drink with one of the professors from FAU.
