Rights and obligations

Rights and obligations of students

Upon enrollment, all students become members of FAU as well as members of the faculty or department for their degree program. This results in certain rights and obligations for all students.

Rights

For example, students have

  • the right to participate in the University elections or
  • the right to get involved within the Students’ Representatives (Stuve).

Students are also entitled to use

  • University institutions (such as the Library, Language Centre, advice and service centers, Erlangen Regional Computing Center (RRZE), etc.) as well as
  • services of the Studierendenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Furthermore, all FAU students are allowed to participate in the FAU Student Survey (FAU-St) every year.

In many non-University areas, students also receive discounts and can purchase, for example, the discounted Bavarian ticket for public transport.

Obligations

Like all members of FAU, students must behave in such a way that FAU can fulfill its tasks and no one is prevented from exercising their own rights and obligations.

Further obligations of the students are in particular to:

  • register for further study on time each semester (re-registration),
  • study in accordance with the relevant degree program and examination regulations – unless they are exempt from this obligation for an important reason (leave of absence),
  • notify the University immediately of any changes to the data collected during enrollment, in particular changes to their name (notify the Student Records Office) or their address (self-administration in the IdM portal),
  • notify the University immediately if they lose their FAUcard,
  • notify the University immediately in the event of a change in health insurance,
  • notify the University of any facts that may be an obstacle to enrollment or grounds for refusing enrollment (see Enrollment Regulations)
  • comply with the FAU House Rules.

Important: You must read your emails from the University. They give you important information about examination dates, re-registration dates or important information from the Executive Board. You can also set up email forwarding to your private email address.

Students also have further obligations arising from the degree program and examination regulations for their degree program.

Membership of FAU and all associated rights and obligations end with de-registration (apply to the Student Records Office).
