You have decided to study a Master’s degree programme or the PhD in Advanced ImmunoMedicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). We congratulate you on your decision and would be glad to welcome you to FAU. On this website, you will find further information about the application process. Please read the information carefully before applying for a Master’s degree programme at our university via the application portal campo.

Information on the current application period

Application for the Master's degree programme in Psychology

  • Applications for winter semester 2022/23 can be submitted from mid May 2022. Applications for entering in the winter semester may only be submitted for the first and third semester of study.
  • An application with all required documents must be submitted to FAU by 1 August 2022. The final submission deadline for undergraduate degree certificates is 15 September 2022 if the applicant does not already have the certificate at the time of applying for the Master’s degree programme. Please send a copy of your undergraduate degree certificate or graded final academic record by post to the Master’s Office or send a scanned copy by e-mail to zuv-masterbuero@fau.de.
    • The application period for summer semester 2023 is expected to begin in mid December 2022. Applications for entering in the summer semester may only be submitted for the second and fourth semester of study. An application with all required documents must be submitted to FAU by 15 January 2023.
  • If the application form states that you need to submit documents by post, please also send us all requested documents including 2 copies of your signed application for admission by post to the Master’s Office (but only if it explicitly states that documents are to be sent by post).
  • Please also be sure to always upload your application documents for the Master’s degree programme in Psychology as a PDF file in the upload section.

Application for the Master's degree programme in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy

  • Applications for the Master’s degree programme in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy for the winter semester 2022/23 may be submitted as of mid May 2022. Please note that for this subject applications may only be submitted for entry into the first semester.
  • Please note that it is only recommended that you apply if you have proof of completing all course achievements in a recognized Bachelor’s degree program in psychology that meets the requirements for working towards a license to practice psychology in accordance with the German Licensing Regulations for Psychotherapists (PsychThApprO), and are therefore qualified for acceptance onto a recognized Master’s degree program focusing on clinical psychology and psychotherapy that meets the requirements for working towards a license to practice psychology.
  • An application with all required documents must be submitted to FAU by August 1, 2022. The final submission deadline for undergraduate degree certificates is September 15, 2022 if the applicant does not already have the certificate at the time of applying for the Master’s degree program. Please send scanned copies of your undergraduate degree certificate or a graded final academic record, a certificate for BQT I (employment qualifying for entry into a profession) (at least 240 hours) including an orientation placement (at least 150 hours)  as well as confirmation from your university that your Bachelor’s degree program meets the requirements of the Licensing Regulations for Physicians (Approbationsordnung) (template also available here: https://www.psychologie.phil.fau.de/studium/master-studiengang/m-s-c-psychologie-klinische-psychologie-und-psychotherapie-studienbeginn-ab-ws-22-23/#collapse_0) via e-mail to zuv-masterbuero@fau.de and klips-master@fau.de by September 15 for inspection. We recommend that you submit your documents as soon as possible.
  • If the application form states that you need to submit documents by post please also send us all requested documents including 2 copies of your signed application for admission by post to the Master’s Office (but only if it explicitly states that documents are to be sent by post).
  • Please also be sure to always upload your application documents for the Master’s degree programme in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy to the upload section as a PDF file.

Application periods

  • The application period for summer semester 2023 is expected to begin from 9 December 2022. Please note that not all Master’s degree programmes at FAU can be started in the summer semester.
  • Applications for all Master’s degree programmes (other than Psychology) starting in winter semester 2022/23 can be submitted as of 3 February 2022 or 7 April 2022. The following PDF document lists the dates from which applications can be submitted.

Extended application deadline for summer semester 2022

The following Master’s degree programme has extended its application deadline for summer semester 2022:

  • Gerontology (Msc) Part-time: 15 March 2022

Re-application procedure from summer semester 2022

Provided no significant changes have been made to the Master’s degree programme in accordance with Section 57 (3) BayHSchG, the admissions letter remains valid.  If applicants do not enrol in the semester of admission, they may re-apply through a simplified application procedure in a later semester.  Applicants for a Master’s degree programme who applied for and were offered a place on the same Master’s degree programme in the previous semester should still apply online via the application portal campo. In addition to their application documents, they should also upload their admissions letter from the previous semester in the upload section.

PhD in Advanced ImmunoMedicine

The PhD program in Advanced ImmunoMedicine (full and part time) is to start in summer semester 2022. Applications can be submitted for starting the program in either the winter or the summer semester. Further information on course content can be found on the degree program website. Applications for summer semester 2022 can be submitted as of December 9, 2021 via our application portal campo. The application period for summer semester 2023 is expected to begin in mid December 2022.

Degree programmes with preselection

If you are interested in the following degree programmes, please first apply for the preselection process. Further information is available on the website of the relevant degree programme:

Please note that we are unable to give you any information about the status of your application documents. You can check the status of your application directly in our application portal at www.campo.fau.de.

General information on applications

To be admitted to a Master’s degree programme you must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Before applying, please read the current information on Master’s degree programmes at FAU. A separate list of all international degree programmes and degree programmes taught in English is provided.

If you want to apply for one of our Master’s degree programmes, the most important information regarding the application procedure in general, special admission requirements, application deadlines and admissions examinations for individual degree programmes is available here:

If you are required to complete a German language course before starting a degree programme that is taught in German, you must first apply for this via the application portal campo. You must then send all required documents to the Master’s Office by post.

In order to apply for the PhD in Advanced ImmunoMedicine, you require a Master’s degree in a science subject or a medical degree and you must submit a supervisor’s note of acceptance with your application. Applications should be submitted via the online portal ‘campo’. Suitable applicants will be invited to a personal selection interview as part of the qualification assessment process. The offer of a place will be made after the qualification assessment process has been completed.

The application process

1. Check you meet the requirements

You can only apply for a Master’s degree programme at FAU if you have completed or will soon complete an undergraduate degree (e.g. Bachelor’s degree) at a public or state-approved university that qualifies you to progress to Master’s study.

It is possible to start a Master’s degree programme before completing your undergraduate degree if you meet certain minimum requirements. You must present your undergraduate degree certificate within one year of starting your Master’s degree programme. If you are unable to do so, you will not be able to continue with the Master’s degree programme. Applicants with non-German Bachelor’s degrees must present their Bachelor’s degree certificate before enrolling.

In addition, Diplom students must be close to completing their degree programme.

Individual degree programmes that make use of this rule have different requirements. If you are unsure of which requirements apply, please contact the degree programme co-ordinator. The following list provides an overview of the different regulations at each of the faculties with regard to the minimum requirements for applications:

Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology

Students can apply for most degree programmes at the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology leading to a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree after obtaining a total of 140 ECTS credits from completed modules. Other rules apply for the degree programme in Psychology (M. Sc.). Please refer to the relevant degree programme and examination regulations for further information.

Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law

Bachelor’s students who have not yet completed their degree programme can apply for degree programmes at the School of Business, Economics and Society once they have completed modules worth a minimum of 135 ECTS credits if the standard duration of studies for the Bachelor’s degree programme is six semesters. If the standard duration of studies is more than six semesters, the minimum number of credits that must have been obtained in completed modules changes accordingly (162 ECTS credits for a standard duration of studies of seven semesters; 189 ECTS credits for a standard duration of studies of eight semesters).

Faculty of Medicine

Students may apply for the degree programme in Medical Process Management (MPM) once they have completed modules worth a minimum of 140 ECTS credits.

Students may apply for the degree programme in Molecular Medicine once they have completed modules worth a minimum of 150 ECTS credits.

The following formal requirements must be met in order to apply for the PhD in Advanced ImmunoMedicine:

  • A Master’s degree in a science subject or a medical degree.
  • A supervisor’s note of acceptance.
  • Suitable applicants will be invited to a personal selection interview as part of the qualification assessment process. The offer of a place will be made after the qualification assessment process has been completed.

Faculty of Sciences

  • Students may apply for the degree programmes in Chemistry, Computational and Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Geosciences, Integrated Immunology, Mathematics, Molecular Science, and Economics and Mathematics once they have completed modules worth a minimum of 140 ECTS credits.
  • Students may apply for the degree programmes in Integrated Life Sciences (ILS) and Cell and Molecular Biology once they have completed modules worth a minimum of 135 ECTS credits.
  • Students must have completed modules worth a minimum of 150 ECTS credits to apply to the degree programmes in Physical Geography: Climate and Environmental Studies and Cultural Geography.

Faculty of Engineering

Students may apply for the degree programmes at the Faculty of Engineering once they have completed modules worth a minimum of 140 ECTS credits.

2. Online application

Applications for Master’s degree programmes and the PhD in Advanced ImmunoMedicine have to be submitted online via the campo application portal. During the online application process, you are requested to upload your application documents to the upload section as a PDF file. Your application is then checked on the basis of the documents you have uploaded.  There is no need to send application documents by post.

Please note:

  • If the application form for admission to the Master’s degree programme in Psychology or the Master’s degree programme in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy states that you need to submit documents by post, please also send us all requested documents including 2 copies of your signed application for admission by post to the Master’s Office (but only if it explicitly states that documents are to be sent by post).
  • Please also be sure to always upload your application documents for the Master’s degree programme in Psychology or the Master’s degree programme in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy as a PDF file in the upload section.

3. Changing uploaded documents

In the upload area in the menu, you can check the documents which you have uploaded by clicking on the files. If you discover that you have uploaded the wrong file, to replace the file:

Click on ‘Zurück zur Übersicht’ (back to overview) and ‘Antrag bearbeiten’ (edit application) and edit your application as required. To do so please go to the ‘Studienbewerbung’ (degree programme application) and ‘Upload-Bereich’ (upload area) sections.

Please note that you can only edit your application if you have not yet submitted it to FAU online.
