What is required if everyone is to benefit from a better future? This is the central question behind the UN’s sustainable development goals. Bearing this in mind, the British educational magazine Times Higher Education has launched a new ranking measuring the contribution made by universities across the globe to these goals. We are pleased to report that FAU has done well in the areas of good health and well-being and energy.

Computer science at FAU has done particularly well in the CHE Master’s ranking 2021. It is ranked among the top contenders in five categories: overall study situation, courses offered, support for new students, publications per researcher and doctoral degrees per professor.

FAU once more shows what it can do in the second and third subject groups in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking. The second ranking group focuses on engineering and computer science, and the third on subjects including social sciences.

FAU is ranked 8th in Germany in the Nature Index 2021, making it one of the top ten institutes of higher education in Germany. On an international level, FAU has moved up 15 places, reaching place 127 in the global 500. The ranking also acknowledges publications in individual subjects. In Germany, FAU reached 8th place in chemistry (place 96 internationally).

FAU has once again performed excellently in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2021: Materials Science and Chemistry remain among the top 150, and Materials Science has even made it into the top 100.
