As FAU scholar you have access to a wide range of support services for generating research impact in academia, business, society, and politics.
Outreach at FAU supports the five central pathways of FAU’s knowledge and technology transfer strategy: transfer via people, via training, via patents & licences, via cooperation & co-creation, and via spin-offs. By communicating knowledge professionally, proactively, and passionately, we make science accessible and inform society.
Support structures, formats and platforms, as well as support staff are available for each path. In addition, the FAU Press and Communications Office offers support for professional academic communication. By sharing comparable offerings, formats, and platforms across FAU, FAU members strengthen the impact of their outreach efforts while making an important contribution to the visibility and impact of FAU as a whole.
To make this happen, we help you get fit in the Outreach competency area. We offer two Outreach modules as part of FAUnext: O1 “Shape Your FAU Innovator Profile” and O2 “Make Your Research Glow”.
Please register for the modules via StudOn.
The module is designed as a two-day workshop. Day 1 consists of four learning units of 90 min. each. Day 2 focuses on gaining experience with a deep dive as an FAU innovator. Prior to attending the module, each participant will submit a one-page description of their current FAU Innovator profile. The profiles will be made available to all participants and workshop leaders prior to the workshop. A template for the FAU Innovator Profile will be sent directly to you approximately two weeks before the workshop.
Content Day 1:
- Pitch your own FAU innovator profile!
To start the day, selected participants will pitch their personal FAU Innovator Profiles. The profiles will be discussed and participants will receive feedback. You will seek to understand the different outreach potential of specific profiles and explore synergies with research, education and people activities.
- Analyze profiles of selected FAU innovators
You will analyze the profiles of some given FAU innovators. You will discuss emerging strengths and specific opportunities, but also evaluate risks and potential weaknesses. As a result, you will be able to evaluate the synergy potential of different outreach areas in the context of research, education and people activities.
- Understand the support structures for FAU innovators
At FAU, you will not be left alone! There are extensive structures in place to support FAU scholars in their outreach activities. Here you will become familiar with the given support structures at FAU and identify the ones that are most promising for you.
- Get professional feedback on your FAU Innovator profile!
Based on the day’s insights and discussions, you will revise your FAU Innovator Profile, add synergies and support services, and think about how you can help young researchers, as well as students, get equally involved in outreach.
Content Day 2:
The starting point for Day 2 will be the FAU Innovator Profiles that resulted in Day 1. The second day will be a hands-on deep dive into one of the FAU Innovator activities, initiatives, or platforms. You will be guided to choose the area of engagement that best fits your FAU Innovator profile.
Potential areas of engagement can be selected from, but are not limited to FAU Innovator activities, initiatives, or platforms such as:
