FAU food chemist receives award for excellent university teaching

The Ars Legendi Faculty Award for excellent university teaching in the category of Chemistry goes this year to Dr. Sabrina Gensberger-Reigl from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). The official award ceremony took place in Berlin.

Dr. Sabrina Gensberger-Reigl, a scientist at the Chair of Food Chemistry, supports a smooth transition from university to industry with her two-semester, practice-oriented seminar in the Food Chemistry program and is an outstanding mentor for her students, according to the jury’s statement. In addition, she also has an excellent understanding of how to link theory and practice and makes a significant contribution to students’ career orientation. She promotes important skills through project work in small groups, for example, by getting her students to examine analytical questions and implement their knowledge directly into practice. This happens under close supervision and with a high degree of practical relevance. “The large number of field trips to partners in industry organized and attended by Dr. Gensberger-Reigl as part of the project are particularly valuable. These field trips provide students with realistic insights into the world of work and makes it easier for them to start out on a career”, emphasized Ekaterina Salikhova, who is a student member of the jury and gave the laudatory speech at the award ceremony.  Dr. Ensberger-Reigl also drives forward the digitalization of teaching. Her innovative concepts such as the “flipped lab” and the electronic lab notebook enable students to structure their lab work effectively and receive feedback in good time. This significantly improves the students’ learning process. “Dr. Sabrina Gensberger-Reigl is an inspirational teacher. With great passion, she promotes the academic success and career prospects of her students. Her commitment deserves the highest recognition”, said Ekaterina Salikhova at the end of her speech.
