CHE Ranking 2025: Top places for electrical engineering and psychology

Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg has received top scores in the latest Center for Higher Education (CHE) ranking, the most comprehensive university ranking in German-speaking countries. All eleven subjects rated at FAU were given top scores with the subjects electrical engineering/information technology and psychology achieving top results.

This year, a total of eleven subjects were included in the ranking: biotechnology, chemical engineering/applied chemistry, electronic and communication engineering, German language and literature, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, psychology, romance studies, environmental engineering, process engineering and materials science and engineering. The ranking is based on criteria that are evaluated based on responses from student surveys, scientific databases and information provided by the universities.

FAU did particularly well in the support in the “study entry phase” category with all subjects ranked at FAU in this category reaching the top group based on information in databases and provided by the university.

The subjects electrical engineering/information technology and psychology did particularly well, being ranked in 18 and 14 top groups respectively.

About the ranking

The CHE higher education ranking is published exclusively in the ZEIT Studienführer and HeyStudium from ZEIT ONLINE. With approximately 120,000 students included in the survey, the CHE ranking has been the most comprehensive and detailed university comparison in German-speaking countries for over 25 years. The ranking evaluates responses from students on the study conditions at their university, as well as criteria on studying, teaching and research for more than 10,000 degree programs at German universities. The ranking is now available online.
