Why do I need a confirmation of health insurance status (also known as M10 Notification) and how do I apply for it?

State and state-recognized institutions of higher education (universities/universities of applied sciences etc.) in Germany are legally required to request confirmation of health insurance when enrolling students (Section 5 and Section 199 SGB V (German Social Security Code V)). With this notification, the statutory health insurance provider confirms whether you have statutory health insurance, private health insurance, are exempt or are released from the requirement to have mandatory health insurance. You must request this notification personally from your statutory health insurance provider who then forwards your health insurance status to FAU electronically (Section 199a (2)(2) SGB V).

This can often be easily carried out via an app or online with a few clicks.

Your first name, last name and date of birth are required for this electronic notification.

The reference number for FAU is H0001887.

You can find for further information about health insurance on the FAU website.
