FAU’s Schlossgartenfest is celebrating its 70th anniversary in June

Fans of the Schlossgartenfest of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) can look forward to Saturday, June 27, when the Schlossgarten once again opens its gates for one of the largest garden parties in Europe, in the heart of Erlangen. The evening offers a varied program of live music and dancing, culinary delights, and entertaining insights into research conducted at FAU.

“FAU’s Schlossgartenfest is always an unforgettable event. It is a magical evening where people can set aside their cares and come together to celebrate curiosity and a sense of community. And now it is being held for the 70th time,” FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger says with a smile. “Come along and celebrate this anniversary with us. Enjoy the music and catering with us, have a chat with our researchers in the booths set up for this purpose for the first time this year, and stroll through the Schlossgarten to discover the other highlights.”

Rediscover our discovery trail

The highlights on offer include the interactive stations at the discovery trail, that is being included again this year after proving such a success the year before. In the “Selfies & colors” photobooth, visitors can investigate the phenomenon of colors that never fade using their own selfies. The interactive globe of academic freedom will also be available again, inviting guests to touch the screen and find out about academic freedom in various countries.

New: A drink with … Drink & think

If the discovery trail leaves you wanting more, you can have a chat with FAU researchers and ask them all about their work. Experts from 15 different disciplines such as astrophysics, climate and environmental policy, forensics or mental health will be available for a drink and a chat at our “drink & think” booths – a new attraction offered for the first time this year. You will also be served a refreshing drink.

Various culinary delights

Other refreshments available include new flavors of our popular science cocktails, the cocktails that give a colorful demonstration of how science works that were introduced for the first time last year, and the gin from Tinctura Anatomica, invented by the two FAU anatomists Dr. Dr. Michael Scholz and Prof. Dr. Dr. Lars Bräuer.

Alongside the various drinks on offer, guests will be able to sample a wide range of different culinary delights at food stalls with produce from local providers. Local Franconian cuisine, international dishes, sweet or savory choices, with meat, vegetarian or vegan – there is something for everyone.

Six different bands will provide the musical backdrop for the evening, inviting guests to sing along and join the dancing. The highlight of the evening will be the firework display that will take place at the Hugenot fountain and at the rear of the Schlossgarten.

Tickets are now on sale. Further information and a detailed program is available on the Schlossgartenfest website.

If the weather is poor, the Schlossgartenfest will be rescheduled to Saturday July 4.
