A connection with FAU lasts a lifetime. This was powerfully demonstrated on 10 and 11 July 2026, when the University celebrated its doctoral graduates alongside alumni marking the anniversaries of their doctorates. Over the course of two days, people from different generations came together, united by one shared experience: earning a doctorate at FAU – whether only recently or many decades ago.

The celebrations began with the Anniversary Dinner on Friday evening. Alumni who had received their doctorates from FAU 15, 25 or 50 years ago gathered to reconnect, share memories and celebrate their enduring bond with their alma mater. Personal stories, lively conversations and joyful reunions highlighted the lasting impact that their time at FAU continues to have on their lives.

On Saturday, the spotlight turned to FAU’s newest doctoral graduates. During the interdisciplinary Doctoral Graduation Ceremony, they were honoured for their outstanding academic achievements in the presence of their families and the doctoral anniversary alumni, and officially welcomed into the global FAU Alumni Network. The ceremonial recognition by the University Executive Board and the faculties underscored the significance of this important milestone. One of the most memorable aspects of the day was the opportunity for different generations of researchers to meet, exchange experiences across disciplines and build new connections.

Among the most moving moments of the event was the commemoration of those whose doctoral degrees had been revoked for political reasons during the Nazi regime. By formally honouring these individuals, FAU once again reaffirmed its commitment to historical responsibility and underscored the importance of academic freedom, scholarly integrity and a culture of remembrance.

Each year, the Doctoral Graduation and Anniversary Celebration showcases the vibrant spirit of the FAU alumni community – defined by academic excellence, meaningful exchange across generations and a lasting connection to the University.
