Students at Medizincampus Oberfranken receive their State Examination certificates

They are already the second group of students to complete their degrees in a groundbreaking project: 40 students have now successfully completed their medical degrees during summer semester 2026 at Medizincampus Oberfranken (MCO). The Medicine Erlangen/Bayreuth degree program led by the Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is a collaboration between Klinikum Bayreuth, Uniklinikum Erlangen, the health service of the district of Upper Franconia, and the University of Bayreuth.

Six years ago, the students initially started their degrees in Erlangen. This is where they completed the pre-clinical stage of their training and then changed to Bayreuth in winter semester 2022/2023 for their clinical training.

Praise for teaching at MCO

Many of the young graduates are staying in the region, including Hiltin Nawra. In September, he will begin working as a physician in the anesthesiology department at Klinikum Bayreuth: “The main things that stand out for me about studying in Bayreuth have been the small size of the group, the good and close friendships among the students and the proximity to the professors”. Since there’s only 50 students, we got to experience everything up close and really get involved.”

Leonie Steinmann also praises the opportunity for students to make an active contribution: “For me, studying at MCO has been about the fact that everybody knows each other, communication paths are short and that all professors really make an effort to put suggestions into practice. I’m going to stay in Bayreuth because I have been offered a position in dermatology.”

Program coordinators are proud of second class of graduates

At the graduation ball, the young medical graduates received their State Examination certificates. They were presented by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Schüttler, Representative of MCO, and Prof. Dr. Tilmann Volk, Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Medicine at FAU. “I am extremely pleased that we are continuing the success story of Medizincampus Oberfranken,“ said Prof. Schüttler at the graduation ball.

The ceremonial speech was given by Prof. Dr. Hans Jürgen Heppner. He is speaker of the Management Committee of the Institute of Research and Teaching at Medizincampus Oberfranken (IMCO). “I would like to congratulate the latest group of successful students who, having passed their State Exams, will now work as doctors to make the region a little healthier.”
