Return to your alma mater, network with your FAU family and take a trip down memory lane.
What you can expect on FAU Alumni Day
Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger, FAU President, will personally greet the alumni.
You can look forward to inspiring presentations and interviews with some well-known FAU alumni during the morning. Nina Bundels, presenter and FAU alumna, will be taking us through the morning’s events.
In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to visit your former faculty or take part in special guided tours.
You can then round off your Alumni Day by either spending the evening at FAU’s Schlossgartenfest, Europe’s largest and most beautiful garden party, at Entlas Keller beer garden on Erlangen’s “Burgberg”, or at the get together at the School of Business, Economics and Society (WiSo) in Nuremberg.

9.50 am: Presentation “The archive, collections and memory culture at FAU”
A large number of objects and documents have been saved at FAU from almost 300 years of research and teaching. Curator Udo Andraschke and University archivist Dr. Clemens Wachter provide an insight into the significance of these items for FAU today.

11.30 am: Presentation “Sustainability through diversity – a step by step approach for FAU’s sustainability strategy”

At the beginning of the year, FAU started to develop its sustainability strategy, with the aim of publishing its first sustainability report by the end of the year. Come along to the presentation to learn details of the steps FAU is taking during this process, the challenges the University faces and how it is overcoming them.
11.50 am: Presentation “OneDollarGlasses”
- FAU alumnus Martin Aufmuth, inventor of the one dollar glasses, founder of the association EinDollarBrille e.V.
Around one billion people worldwide need glasses, but cannot afford them. Children cannot follow their lessons, adults cannot work and thus cannot provide for their families. Martin Aufmuth, multiple award winning inventor of the one dollar glasses, would like to change this.

Faculty of Medicine: A short trip back in time
The program will be put together by the Faculty of Medicine depending on the number of participants.

Faculty of Humanities, Social Science, and Theology: An overview of how the faculty has developed over the years, taking a look at its new locations and the subject of history
Prof. Dr. Rainer Trinczek, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology, provides an insight into site development and the strategic approach.

School of Law: Current developments at the School of Law at FAU
Over coffee and cake in the Juridicum building, Prof. Dr. Jochen Hoffmann, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law, will talk about current developments in research and teaching at the “faculty of law”. A tour through the Juridicum building will also be on offer.

School of Business, Economics and Society: WiSo Alumni Meet and Greet
The varied program offered by WiSo in their Meet and Greet event as part of the Alumni Day provides the perfect opportunity for you to catch up with old contacts and make new ones, find out the latest developments in the field and benefit from the experiences of other alumni. Information about the latest research at WiSO and a tour about the School’s 100-year history will also give you ample opportunity to network with the other participants. Catering will of course be provided

Faculty of Engineering: The Faculty of Engineering today
Welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Andreas Paul Fröba, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and a short presentation about the history and development of the Faculty. The group may be split into departments (subjects) and chairs, depending on the number of participants.

Guided tour through the old University Library
The Collection of Prints and Drawings at FAU includes two collections donated to the University by former students of the School of Law: In 1931, Ernst Luthardt (1863-1937) gave his collection of drawings, watercolors, and prints by old masters and artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Dr. Ruprecht Kamlah ( born in 1941), donated his collection of watercolors and prints by artists from a group known as the “Deutsch-Römer” (Germans in Rome) in December 2020. We will be looking at works from both these collections that feature genre art scenes from Italy and France.

Guided tour through the Botanical Garden: The fascinating world of plants
The Botanical Garden is a great location for observing natural phenomena in the plant world. Visitors can discover plants’ special functions and astounding tricks with the wide variety of different leaves and blooms on display. The tour provides fascinating insights into some of these adaptations from the plant world that visitors can experience for themselves.
Time: 2.30pm
Duration: 1 hour
Location: Botanical Garden, Erlangen, (entrance in Wasserturmstrasse)
Maximum group size: 2 x 20 people
Guided tour through the Scented Garden: The scents and aromas of the plant world
The Scented Garden’s main flowering season is in early summer. The lavender field, the sage bank and the thyme bed are all in full bloom at this time and immerse the garden in a sea of fragrance. On hot summer days in particular, the large beds of herbs produce some wonderful aromas, enticing visitors to pause and draw a deep breath.

Spend the evening with your former fellow students in the relaxed atmosphere of the Entlas Keller beer garden, where we have reserved some tables for you.Please note: The cost of food and drinks are not included in the ticket price for the Alumni Day 2022. - Get together and general meeting of the Alumni & Freunde WiSo Nürnberg e.V. (AFWN – Alumni & Friends of WiSo Nürnberg) association in Nuremberg.

Please click on “Vorverkauf” when purchasing your ticket and enter your Alumni Day code. You will find this code in the confirmation e-mail you receive after you purchase your ticket for the Alumni Day. Only alumni who are participating in the Alumni Day can purchase tickets for the Schlossgartenfest, and only while stocks last.

To take part in the FAU Alumni Day 2022, you have to register in a two-stage process:
Please note: If you already have an FAU Community profile, you can go directly to step 2.
- Firstly, you must register free of charge as one of our alumni in our FAU Community, the online platform of the alumni network. You must then use your login details to log in to the FAU Community.
- Register for the Alumni Day via Conftool: There is a link to Conftool on the FAU Alumni Day 2022 website in the FAU Community. Please register as a participant for the FAU Alumni Day 2022 using Conftool. Participation costs 20 euros per person. You will receive a confirmation e-mail after registration.
The number of tickets is limited to 400. Tickets are available only while stocks last.
Participants will receive an e-mail at the beginning of June with all the relevant information about the FAU Alumni Day 2022.
Information about tickets and purchasing tickets
Tickets for the FAU Alumni Day 2022 cost 20 euros per person.
This includes participation in the events in the morning and afternoon of the FAU Alumni Day 2022 including catering.
The ticket price does not include the costs for food and drink at Entlas Keller beer garden, the get together and general meeting held by Alumni & Freunde WiSo Nürnberg e.V. (AFWN) or the ticket for entry to the Schlossgartenfest.
Alumni may bring one guest. This means that a maximum of two people can be registered as participants simultaneously. FAU alumni do NOT count as guests.
FAU alumni are requested to register separately for the FAU Alumni Day 2022 for organizational reasons.
Information concerning coronavirus
FAU’s coronavirus regulations apply: Participants are required to wear a mask in all indoor spaces. Surgical masks are still required as the minimum level of protection. We recommended wearing an FFP2 mask for your own protection. Masks may be taken off to eat and drink.

By car
Via the A73: Leave the motorway at the Erlangen Bruck exit. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Paul-Gossen-Strasse. After about 2 kilometers, take the exit signposted “Gräfenberg/Erlangen-Ost/Universität”. After around 450 meters, turn left into Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse. After another 300 meters, turn left into Cauerstrasse.
By train
Erlangen train station can be reached from all major train stations in Germany.
Please note that not all ICE trains stop in Erlangen.
With public transport
Several buses travel from Erlangen train station to FAU’s southern campus. Use the timetable of VGN, the local public transportation network VGN to plan your journey (available in English). Enter “Bahnhof Erlangen” as your departure point and “Technische Fakultät Erlangen” as your destination.
