Medical study program at the Upper Franconia Medical Campus

When you choose to study medicine, you are pursuing one of the strangest, most challenging, but also in every way one of the most fulfilling and beautiful professions. As a physician, you will develop a special relationship with your fellow human beings when they come to you as patients. And this relationship will place the greatest responsibility on you, as it gives you a power that privileges you to help others using your knowledge. Choose the path of the medical doctor and experience the deep satisfaction that comes from assisting others in their most difficult times.

What is the degree program about?

Medicine is the study of the prevention, detection and treatment of disease and injury in humans. Physicians aim to restore and maintain the health of patients. In medical school, you will receive scientific and practical training. In order to work independently as a doctor, you will still need to complete a specialist training course after graduation, during which you will specialize in the relevant field of medicine (general medicine, surgery, etc.).

Prof. Dr. med. Winfried Neuhuber, FAU Senior Professor of Anatomy: “If you decide to study medicine, you are aiming for one of the strangest, most challenging, but also in every respect one of the most fulfilling and beautiful professions. As a doctor, you will develop a special relationship with your fellow human beings when they come to you as patients. And that relationship will place the greatest responsibility on you, as it gives you a power that privileges you to help others using your knowledge.”

The Upper Franconia Medical Campus is an innovative collaborative project of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Universal Hospital Erlangen, Bayreuth Clinic and University Bayreuth to establish academic courses of clinical medicine in Bayreuth under the responsibility of the FAU Medical Faculty. The courses in Erlangen and in Bayreuth are part of the study program Medicine Erlangen/Bayreuth, which is provided by the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg additional to the study program Medicine (Erlangen) since Winter 2019/20.

For the study programs Medicine (Erlangen) and Medicine Erlangen/Bayreuth there is a separate admission procedure via the Foundation for University Admission, with identical selection criteria. Both study programs are considered as so-called standard study programs according to ÄApprO, for which the study and examination regulations (StuPOMed2019) apply with common training catalogs and separate schedules in the 2nd study stage. It is a full course of study, i.e. admission is not limited to the pre-clinical study section, but also includes the clinical study section.
